3 Ways to Start the Month off Right

Can you believe it’s already May! You know what that means, we’re one month closer to summer (can you tell i’m ready for my first summer in NYC?). At the beginning of a new month, I like to start fresh so that I feel prepared to take on what comes my way. Here’s 3 things I do at the beginning of the month to stay on top of things.

Monthly Agenda

Now I know we can’t plan everything, but I like to plan ahead as much as I can – this includes events (work and personal), finances, blog posts/photoshoots and any upcoming deadlines I may have. I literally have an agenda or notebook for everything. I generally spend either the last day of the previous month or the first day of the current month, filling in my agenda, content calendar or budget tracker. This really helps me to stay on top of things. I tend to be a bit old fashioned and love writing things down on paper. However, if you’re the typical millennial and prefer to keep things digital, the calendar app on your phone/iPhone can be EXTREMELY helpful. The Reminders app on iPhones is a great tool too. I’m sure there’s plenty of other apps in the App Store as well that can help you get your life in formation.

Remove Clutter

Removing clutter doesn’t necessarily have to mean trash. This can refer to people, things, or anything that just doesn’t need to be in your life. At the beginning of the month, I usually remove the clutter from all my email accounts by deleting any irrelevant or outdated messages. Between work, my blog and my personal life, I have almost 6 email accounts (I know, i know.. it’s a bit much). But it helps me to stay organized. I also do this with my phone and my space (my room/ my desk at work). Nothing says fresh start like a clean space. Clutter tends to make you feel overwhelmed, and that’s not a good way to start off the month.

Refocus

Of course you can do this at anytime, but it’s always great to refocus at the beginning of a month. This helps to get your mind back on track and ready to conquer everything you take on. I refocus by journaling, praying and spending some time alone. I’m naturally a very introverted person, so I value my alone time. Being in a city where so much is going on and there’s so many people, it can be draining. So I take time to get my thoughts out, pray about them and leave any negative thoughts or feelings in the past so that I can move on with a  renewed mind and perspective.
